Love Note Sweater Make Along

Love Note Sweater by Tin Can Knits in Rowan Fine Tweed Haze

When I was working at the shows last season a sweater haunted me. I saw it everywhere. I saw it at Yarndale more than once. I saw it lots at Ally Pally and again at Harrogate. It was the beautiful Love Note by Tin Can Knits. It is one of the most popular patterns on Ravelry, made at least 12,500 times! I need to make it! Are you with me?

We used the Tin Can Knits Flax Sweater pattern early last year and it was beautifully written and easy to follow, I know we can’t fail with another of their patterns. The lacy Love Note is (like the Flax) knitted top down and in the round, the original pattern asks for 4 ply and mohair blended together or a DK weight yarn, it’s so versatile. The pattern is easy to adapt, you can make the body longer, the sleeves shorter, it’s up to you!

The pattern can be purchased from Ravelry or from the Shop section of the Tin Can Knits own handy app and I promise you it’s worth the money. It’s tried and tested and easy to wear. We have put kits together in three different yarns that we know will be perfect for the pattern.

The first yarn we’ve used is West Yorkshire Spinners Elements, an innovative blend of 60% Lyocell and 40% Falkland Islands wool. Lyocell is harvested from sustainably managed wood sources and is biodegradable and compostable, so this yarn can be reverted back to nature. It’s lightweight with a stunning lustre, meaning it will show the lace pattern off beautifully.

Our second kit contains the beautiful Fine Tweed Haze from Rowan, one of our biggest sellers this season. It’s a wonderfully soft, lightweight DK you will fall in love with. It is so beautiful to touch and will look fabulous layered with your Spring wardrobe. It has a modern tweed look with a soft haze and tweedy neps of contrasting colours to create a rich, luxurious texture. I have tried on a Love Note in this yarn and it works so well.

Our final Luxury kit blends a strand of Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply and a strand of Rowan Kidsilk Haze. These two luxurious yarns create such a beautiful fabric.

We have picked three colours from each range and they are available in adult sizes Extra Small to 6XL. The kits come in an organza bag with an exclusive postcard.

Our Make Along will begin on Friday 1st March with a Facebook live cast on at 12pm. I would love you to join in. There’s no need to buy a kit, feel free to stash dive!

This is a loose sweater which knits up quickly on 6mm needles, creating a floaty fabric which drapes perfectly -  it’s really important to get the sizing right. Watch our video on picking the right size.

We have a review of all the yarns and kits which are well worth a watch before you make your mind up which one to treat yourself too.

There are six tutorials from Tin Can Knits taking you through the whole sweater. They start with sizing, then we have construction, yoke, body & sleeves, neckline and making up. The tutorials are really easy to follow but if you still have questions don’t forget our Black Sheep Make Along Facebook group – it’s such a lovely place to be! The one thing to note is – make sure your tension is correct. Some of the kits do not give many extra metres (we would have had to put in an extra ball and this seemed really wasteful!) so please, please, please check your tension!
