Join our PetiteKnit Cloud Along - Make Along

We held our first PetiteKnit MAL last summer and it was a huge hit. The Ankers Make Along was knitted top down and in-the-round, with simple increases in the yoke. For spring 2026 we are doing a Cloud Make Along! The construction of the Cloud sweaters is slightly different and may seem unusual at first, but don’t worry. We’ll be holding your hand with videos, Facebook lives, and hints and tips. Plus expect lots of support within the Black Sheep Wools Facebook Make Along group.

Cloud Top

This is a stunning sleeveless vest top showcasing the rolled hem and neckline that is standard on all of the Cloud patterns. It is knitted using two stands of 4ply or fingering weight yarn. Rowan Summerlite 4ply would work beautifully - using two strands together or Rowan Summerlite DK as a single strand. For a more economical choice check out James C Brett It’s Pure Cotton DK.

Cloud Tee

This is the perfect summer T-shirt - I guarantee you will wear it so much! If you like a longer short sleeve (if that makes sense) it is easy to adjust the length. For this one I swatched Rowan Summerlite 4ply and the tension was spot on, plus we have some fabulous shades in our clearance section.

Cloud Blouse

This is the one that sparked my interest. An incredibly wearable sweater that is lightweight and perfect for a summer evening. Two strands of a kidsilk mohair are used for this pattern, Tynn Silk by Sandnes Garn or Rowan Kidsilk Haze (we've even got shades in clearance) are superb choices. For more affordable options, James C Brett Shhh and Sirdar Soft Down DK would both work well.

Cloud Sweater

This one baffled my brain initially as the yarn recommendations on the pattern are chunky, but it is knitted on a 4.5mm needle, it took a bit of research but here you go. You do need a chunky yarn, but it needs to be an air spun yarn. For example I tried a swatch of Stylecraft Softie and it was too small, I then tried Stylecraft Grace Aran to see if aran weight yarn was ok, but that was far too small (at this point I felt like Goldilocks)! Yarns that worked perfectly are Rowan Brushed Fleece - again there are three stunning clearance shades, Mode Softest Alpaca and King Cole Flair.

Cloud Sweater Junior

Cloud Sweater Junior is one for the little ones this uses and aran weight yarn, you can strand it with a kidsilk mohair to get a haze. Croftland Aran from James C Brett would be fab for this project.

Take a look at our helpful Cloud meterage table  to help work out yarn requirements for each pattern.

Construction

You start these garments at the back of the neck and knit a rectangle first, going backwards and forth on a circular needle using German Short Rows to enable the back to lie flat. Don’t be put off by the short row technique - it is super easy!

You shape the under arms and then leave your stitches to rest. Pick up on the shoulders, knit down for the fronts and then join to knit in-the-round. I promise you, it’s simple. Watch our videos for a full explanation and hints and tips.

The live cast-on will be on Good Friday at 12pm BST in our Facebook page. It will be a great project to lose yourself in over the Easter weekend.
