Hints and Tips - Spring Chill Hexi Cardigan
- Do a tension square! If you want your garment to fit you then it’s the most important thing you can do.
- Crochet a square bigger than you need. I did 26 trebles by 14 rows.
- If you have too many stitches try a bigger hook size, if you have too few go down a hook size and try again. My tension across is fine but I have one more row, this is due to how I crochet, I think I’m a yanker (I pull the yarn up high). I’m going to stick with the correct hook size and just watch my length.
- Play with colour. Make shade swatches with card and see how your stripe sequence looks.
- There are a lot of ends in this project. That’s the one drawback about working stripes. When joining a new colour tie it in a knot with the colour you are already using and then crochet over both tails of yarn together – keep your tails quite short. There is a quick video showing you how I do this.
- On Row 2 you will treble 3 stitches before you work a corner. You then add four more trebles on the next row eg. Row 3 Treble 7 work corner, and so on.
- If making the cardigan in one colour chain 3 and turn at the end of the row and then work the next one.
- Your crochet will not lie flat, it is supposed to be shaped. It all fits together beautifully when it is folded.
- Make both hexis at the same time.
