The Perfect Raglan Yarn Choices

At Black Sheep we have a fab range of 4ply yarns all of which could be used for this sweater. Detailed below are four of our favourites which we will be highlighting throughout the MAL.

Symfonie Terra 4ply

This is our luxury choice for the Perfect Raglan MAL. Symfonie Terra 4ply is made from a blend of 75% extrafine merino and 25% nylon it is a yarn that is hugely popular with the Black Sheep flock but not one that is often used for crochet. So come on and give it a go - let’s not let the knitters have all the fun! 

Each 100g skein is individually hand-painted or kettle-dyed using artisan methods, resulting in a rich mix of solid and variegated colorways. The simple stitches in the ‘Perfect Raglan’ will show off the colours beautifully and the addition of nylon will add strength for a garment that will get plenty of wear. It is super soft and delicious, I can’t wait to use it.

King Cole Merino Blend 4ply

King Cole Merino Blend 4ply brings the warmth and comfort of wool to a yarn that’s made for everyday wear. It is 100% superwash wool at a super price so a great entry level yarn for pure wool devotees. 

It feels soft and gives great stitch definition and will crochet up beautifully. Each 50g ball holds 180 metres making it a super mid-price choice for ‘The Perfect Raglan’ sweater. Plus the superwash finish means it can be machine washed, which is especially handy for sweaters that will be worn often as I know the perfect raglan will be.

Cygnet Truly Wool Rich 4ply 

This is a practical choice for projects that need to feel soft and stand up to regular washing. With 205 metres in each 50g ball and a soft handle and wide colour range this is perfect for our make along project. If you haven’t used Cygnet yarns before they specialise in great yarns at great prices and Truly Wool Rich 4ply is definitely one of these.

Stylecraft Special 4ply

Special 4ply is a great choice when you’re looking for a versatile yarn that’s easy to care for and kind to your budget. Made from 100% premium acrylic it has a super selection of shades in 100g balls with a huge 422 metres on each. 

If you’re looking for a natural-fibre yarn, this won’t be the one for you, but for an affordable,  4ply that’s perfect for this project then you won’t be disappointed.
