Staff Project: Polo Cardigan from Rowan Magazine 79
The Polo cardigan from Rowan Magazine 79 was a hit from the moment the pattern book launched. Sara fell head over heels for it and so did many of our customers. We have already seen one or two being knitted in our Facebook Make Along group. It's a striped cotton cardigan with wide, block stripes on the front, wide with a thin contrasting stripe on the back, then the sleeves are a much finer stripe using all three shades in garter stitch. Quite the stripy medley.

Name: Emma
Pattern: Polo from Rowan Magazine 79
Yarn: Rowan Handknit Cotton
Shades: 377 Canary / 252 Black / 263 Bleached
Size: 32"-34"
The cardigan caught Emma's eye whilst browsing the new season pattern book. She was drawn to the style and shape of the cardigan and felt the bold black and white stripe was striking. Emma knew straight away that she wanted to have black and white as her main shades. It was just which colour to choose for the third shade that was the big decision. That's when Emma discovered the brand new shade of yellow, 'Canary'. This would be the perfect pop of colour against the black and white. Emma loved this summery shade! Off she went with pattern and yarn to ask speedy knitter Black Sheep Carmen to knit her lovely cardigan.

Carmen had never used Rowan Handknit Cotton before and found it a pleasant yarn to knit with. The only thing that Carmen found challenging on the pattern was the two shaded border. This was a little fiddly to start with but Carmen soon found her way and enjoyed knitting the cardigan overall.

Emma opted for quirky hounds tooth buttons as a statement finishing touch. She plans to wear her cardigan this summer with shorts or jeans. It has turned out just has she hoped, in fact it has exceeded her expectations!
