Staff Project: Knitted Cardigan in King Cole Homespun Aran
Carmen has recently finished knitting a cardigan in one of our new yarns, King Cole Homespun Aran. It's almost like a bomber jacket style cardigan. A boxy, slightly oversized shape that is an easy wearable style. Throw it on with a pair of jeans on a dry spring day and you are good to go. The tweed fleck in this yarn gives a lovely look of texture to the finished garment.
Name: Carmen
Pattern: King Cole 6420
Yarn: King Cole Homespun Aran
Shades: 6233 Night Sky and 6230 Snow
Size: 36 - 38"
What attracted you to the design?
It is a pretty cardigan style and I liked the colours. I wouldn't usually choose the exact colours on a pattern but these really caught my eye.
How did you find the pattern?
It was simple enough to knit. You just need to make sure that you follow the instructions written in the pattern, especially for the saddle shoulder. I had never done this style of rib (used on the sleeves) before, it creates a nice effect.

What are your thoughts on the King Cole Homespun Aran yarn?
It did feel fine for an aran weight, but it came out to tension. I think it is just a lighter feel. I really enjoyed knitting with it and wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

Would you recommend the pattern to someone else?
Yes, definitely! It is a versatile pattern with the option to make it plain or block colour and the second collar option too. I would quite like to make that version in the future.

Are you pleased with the finished garment?
Yes, I am pleased how my cardigan has turned out. It's looks like I had hoped as shown in the pattern. It's an easy throw on jacket style cardigan that I look forward to wearing with skinny jeans and a t-shirt.

What do you plan to make next?
I am already working on another cardigan. This one is for Emma who works in customer service. She asked me to knit the 'Polo' cardigan from Rowan Magazine 79. It's knitting up quickly in Rowan Handknit Cotton.
