Sara's Monthly Project Update - March 2022

Medina Scarf MAL

This was a make along that we started in February. It’s a stunning scarf designed by Juliet Bernard in Rowan Felted Tweed Colour, a favourite yarn of mine and a best seller every week in store!

Knitted in the round using two handed colour-work and then steeked at the end – Eek! The Medina make along was all about improving my skills. Neither of these techniques are my strong points. I have done two handed colour-work before and loved it but I’m not that confident with how it looks at the end.

I used the chartreuse kit and really loved making it. The two-colour stitch pattern was really short so really easy to remember and each row flew by. I avoided the dreaded twist at cast on by working one row before I joined.

My first lot of colour work was a bit bumpy. I was pulling the yarn over to many stitches so I dropped down to carrying three stitches and it has made such a difference. I cast off a few weeks ago at the beginning of March and it has now been wet blocked and it looks fab. The only problem is it’s too warm to wear it!

Zoom Jacket in Rowan Big Wool

This is a stunning tulip sleeved jacket designed by Rowan Supremo Martin Storey. I love Martin’s classic designs and this one is no exception. A long body and cropped sleeve in chunky Rowan Big Wool, it is very similar to a coat I already have that I wear loads, so hopefully I will wear this lots too. The pattern is ‘Easy Style’ a great book that has been really popular.

I am making it in a soft blue that shows the stitch pattern brilliantly. Rowan Big Wool is springy so make sure you check your tension, mine was just about right. I have just finished the back. It knits up really quickly so hopefully I’ll be wearing it soon.

Easter Decorations

I am using Jane Crowfoots ‘Festive Decorations’ pattern for these decorations and making them in pastel colours. I made a couple last year and they are a great evening make when you fancy a spring faff! Jane’s patterns are always so beautifully written and the beading tutorials explain the process so well.
I have a bag full of oddments of Sirdar Cotton DK from a blanket project years ago so I have rooted out some soft springy colours and I’m working with these and some shocking pink knitting beads from Debbie Abraham’s. They look fab, I can’t wait to pop them on my Easter tree!

Howe Sweater

Knitted in Rowan Moordale. This is a great piece for layering but I haven’t made much progress, I’ve managed three rows. Navy may be the wrong colour choice for a lacey rib! I’ll keep you updated.

My Precious Sweater By Katerina Designs

Yey, it’s finished and I love it! You can’t beat that feeling of pulling on a garment you’ve made and thinking ‘oh yes I’ll wear this so much’ and this sweater is just that! It feels soft and it looks great with trousers and a shirt. I will live in it this spring! I crocheted it in Scheepjes Stone Washed.
