Sara's Monthly Project Update - January and February 2023

It has been such a long time since I wrote a monthly update post, I’m so sorry. The months, and projects, are just flying by. It feels like Christmas was yesterday!

So what have I been up to, let’s go back to January. December was lost in a month of faffing, far too many bows, crocheted chains and general Christmas stuff.

I started the year with my Betwixtmas, I made mine in the Nicola colourway and just loved it. It was a simple pattern but it did take quite a few rows to embed it in my mind. However, once I had it I loved it. The i-cord edge is such a clever and effective way to carry colour up the side and there are no ends to sew in.

Then I went on to the Scheepjes Chunky Monkey Borderlines sweater. Madeleine has asked me to make it for her in Navy (2005) and beige (2017), it looks really lovely. However one problem, I only picked up two balls of the navy Scheepjes Chunky Monkey to start with and now we’ve sold out and so have Scheepjes. It is well and truly in the naughty corner!

The next on my needles was the Bessie Cowl, our fabulous exclusive make-along in Rowan Felted Tweed. This is an easy colourwork project, worked two handed and in the round. The instructional videos explain all these techniques beautifully.

Now it all gets a bit jumbled at this point, I think I flitted around a lot. I certainly finished off my second Bonjour Hi by Espace Tricot. This is a stunning FREE pattern from Ravelry and a super accessory for this time of the year. I made this one in a strand of Rowan Kid Silk Haze (700) and Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply (109), it creates a beautiful fabric. The pattern is really simple, I’ve made two now and I’m sure I’ll make more.

I have also been working on ‘Simon Cowl’, a crocheted accessory that will be released as a pattern later in the year. Made in two shades of King Cole Riot DK, the colour changes and simplicity of this cowl make it a great project. Perfect for when you are chilling out watching your latest box set.

I started the Rowan Eve sweater last summer and still haven’t finished it. The simple stripes in this garment are really effective and there is very little shaping so it has become my pick up project when I’m tired. I’ve finished the back and almost finished the sleeves so not much further to go.

This brings us up to March, so far I have worked on felt decoration kits, a Noro Ito sweater and my Rowan Moordale Top (Howe Sweater). I’ll update you properly later in the month.
