Lots of craftspeople like working with 2 ply yarn, as it is a versatile yarn which is used by both crocheters and knitters. They use it to create a huge range of clothing and home furnishing items.
Buying the right 2 ply wool
2 ply wool is not the most common yarn size, but it is a very popular one. It is usually quite fine, which means that it takes more stitches to complete whatever is being knitted or crocheted.
However, the finish you get with this wool is excellent, so it is worth using. It is ideal for fine items with intricate open patterns. For many knitters and crocheters, 2 ply yarn is the ideal wool for a shawl, or a runner for a table.
If you are making baby clothes, this yarn is ideal because it is light and very soft. Knitting things takes slightly longer, but you can make baby clothes that look wonderful, and are warm without being bulky. However, not all modern 2-ply yarns are fine, so you need to double check how thick the yarn you are thinking of buying really is.
Most 2 ply knitting yarns, are made from natural fibres like wool, so not all 2 ply yarn is machine washable. For some items, like soft furnishings, this is not really an issue, but for baby clothes, being able to pop the clothes in the washing machine is important. However, we do stock some machine washable 2 ply knitting yarns made from natural fibres, if this is possible it is noted in the product description.
At Black Sheep Wools, we always stock a good range of 2 ply wool. We regularly refresh our stock to make sure that our customers can buy the wool they need to make clothes and soft furnishings that are fashionable as well as high quality.
